Leftovers by Jack Prelutsky
Thanksgiving has been over
for at least a week or two,
but we're still all eating turkey,
turkey salad, turkey stew,
turkey puffs and turkey pudding,
turkey patties, turkey pies,
turkey bisque and turkey burgers,
turkey fritters, turkey fries.
For lunch our mother made us
turkey slices on a stick,
there'll be turkey tarts for supper,
all this turkey makes me sick.
For tomorrow she's preparing
turkey dumplings stuffed with peas,
oh I never thought I'd say this
"Mother! No more turkey... PLEASE!"

Among U.S. cities, Detroit is the most segregated, 8th most violent, and 2nd most dangerous. On the dangerous list, Detroit is behind #1 Camden, N.J. and ahead of #3 St. Louis (the nation's most violent city) and #4, Flint, MI. Among the safest cities with populations over 75,000, Troy, MI, was in the top 10.

There have been a couple of recent episodes of This American Life with interesting stories about Iraq. Act Two of episode 302 (Strangers in a Strange Land) is about soldiers blogging from Iraq. Act Two of episode 300 (What's in a Number?) tells the interesting story of how the Johns Hopkins study, published in The Lancet (available online, free registration required), that tried to estimate the number of Iraqi deaths that resulted from the war. Act Three tells the story of a captain who "...was given a particularly tough assignment in Iraq: to build relationships with a town where U.S. bombs had killed twelve innocent people.
